Two New Arrivals!
I’m excited to share that two new arrivals have joined the gang, currently making us a family of 7.66! We let Olive name them, so please welcome: Eggs and Bran Flakes. They are rescue hens from a local farm, adopted through the British Hen Welfare Trust. We have been on the waiting list for a few weeks now, and were originally expecting ex-battery hens, but we were pleasantly surprised to learn that battery farms are in much lower demand these days, and many of the hens now available for adoption are ex-free range - like these two! However, due to the recent outbreak of bird flu they have had to be kept indoors for most of their 18 month lifespans, so as you can see with Eggs (on the right), they still look pretty downtrodden. It just goes to show that even free range chickens don’t seem to be treated that well.
