Having written and illustrated my third book all about the landscape after dark, it’s no coincidence that I’ve become slightly addicted to drawing night sky scenes! I thought I’d share a little step-by-step guide using my ‘Night Whale’ illustration.

Drawing with fineliner pens is one of my favourite ways to relax. It’s part intense concentration, which acts as a form of meditation, and part colouring in, which is incredibly satisfying and liberating. It’s also a very forgiving material to use, so if you’re new to drawing, this is a great way to build up confidence.
