Flight of the Redwings

Oct 01, 2022

‘Tis the season for bird migration, when hundreds of thousands of birds travel over land and sea to settle in the UK over winter. Birds like redwings, fieldfare and brambling start arriving from late September onwards, and although I haven’t seen any yet, we always get redwings hanging out in our holly tree where the berries grow in juicy clusters. In celebration of the season, here is an extract from my third book Dark Skies: A Journey into the Wild Night, a nature memoir exploring the landscape after dark, first published in 2019 with Bloomsbury.
