A New Moon
It’s a lovely feeling not having to mention Black Friday this weekend, seeing as my shop is closed until 2023. There’s a lot of pressure at this time of year to capture the ‘holiday energy’ and make a few extra sales, because that’s what keeps small businesses and brands going in an Amazon-fuelled world. Keep up or get left behind. I plan to be back in the shopkeeper game by this time next year, but for now I’m definitely enjoying the chance to enjoy the year’s close in peace and quiet, particularly with only a few weeks to go until the new babe arrives. My sister pointed out that it was now weeks, not months, until my due date and all of a sudden it seemed much more real… Speaking of which, if anyone has any witch-doctor techniques of getting a baby to turn, please let me know! He is currently sideways and incredibly uncomfortable, the little pest.
There’s a new moon in the sky today, and although by nightfall it will have dipped back below the horizon, the energy is still out there if you want to harness it - an invitation to start again, make new plans and think new thoughts. This afternoon I’ll be working on my next book, trying to complete the Autumn section before Christmas so I can start to wind down. It’s an enjoyable process and one I’m finding very fulfilling, but I also want to be asleep by 2 o’clock every afternoon, so each day is a balancing act of ‘doing life’ and listening to my body. Today should be a chilled one while Olive’s at forest school; I’m writing about pigs and beetroot, which is a fab combo.
