5 Things to Know When Pitching Your Book to a Publisher
I don’t know if it’s cheaper printing, the internet, social media, or a combination of factors, but getting a book published is a much more viable route for many writers these days. In my own circle of friends and acquaintances alone, I know so many people who have written books, and it’s wonderful! Writing a book is such a fulfilling process (even if it doesn’t always feel like it) and nothing can beat holding the finished item in your hand, or having readers tell you how much they loved your work. To date, I have had six books published with another three on the way, mostly by Bloomsbury books, but also with Bradt, Quarto and Shire. I thought I’d share five things I’ve learnt through pitching and proposing books that might help you with your own ideas - many of which I wouldn’t have thought of before going through the process. These details aren’t 100% essential, but if you at least have them at the back of your mind, it will definitely help you ‘sell’ your idea.
